the most interesting art of the past hundred years

the most interesting art of the past hundred years
perhaps i can see why they'd teach it
the art can last through the years
because people choose to keep it
my songs i wrote when i was young
held dear to my heart
are songs i wrote when i had fun
and i was quite smart
those songs that had great impressions upon
my own weary mind
have been kept around for long
long periods of time
they seem to be a best of reel
the songs i think last
and they're the ones that seem to stick
around strong steadfast
and perhaps these old artists may be
a similar sort of blend
perhaps this is the work
humanity has chosen to spend
all its time upon
for they are great
good enough to remember
strong enough to satiate
these pictures and scultptings
things people put together
compare to modern day fumblings
classics exist forever
not because they last alone
but because we help them along
things such as the gramaphone
are long lived songs
folk tales get told by word
people pass them down
they last for ages on the winds
the local peoples literary crown
and the ancient works of splendor
remain to remind us
how they invented wonder
gifts from the past with which they bless
we're taught about art long dead
the type that's said to be good
but we don't know head from tails
it's all just brain food.
