we got pulled over
the cops flashed his light
we sat in horror
as the lawman flexed his might
and took all my papers
and her name and height
we sat back willingly
not putting up much of a fight
i asked how much she'd have to pay
he said he didn't know
but told her about the courtroom
the place she'd have to go
and so we sat and thought
for a moment or two
while the copper drove away
having popped out and said boo
and we know now she will have a fine to pay
perhaps this'll be the beginnig of a better day
where she manages to work and have some cash in hand
perhaps that'll leave her with funds to buy instruments for the band
but the dude didn't seem to care
he drove us down without pity
didn't stop when it said so
he signed the ticket gleefully
and back at home she did groan
and sat upon the chair
she didn't like her liscense woes
this bad a defeat quite rare
but life can bestow some unweildly blows
and our duty is to stomache
and move on unfliching and strong
come home lie down in a hammock
and sip a drink with cubes and think
about positives and such
and perhaps you'll find you leave problems behind
and don't use things so much as a crutch
and we'll get through this with a kiss
and you'll find you're happy again
and your former status you'll hardly miss
you'll be fully liscened my friend
we'll turn the page in this chapter
and you'll be better off
and sooner or later you'll look back to now
and on these days you'll scoff!
