the chicago industry surprises

the chicago industry surprises
as we roam and find things to do
the museums are not bad at all
rain pours down over you
got relatives way out there
place i used to live
they dont seem to really care
and never bother to forgive
people seem to be rather down
they walk by and look at the ground
and on their faces is a frown
dreary feelings all around
drive out to the outer places
with open fields and soccer spaces
you can see the skyscrapers
and smell up the lake vapours
the water pours down hard
and under bridges you hide for cover
the water overflows the gutter
makes you want a land rover
the traffic on the way in was bad
miles of cars not moving much
but leaving town was a cinch
its going in that was clutch
we found my town after a drive
just a few exits down
the place seemed dead but at the same time alive
i showed anita around
this was the place we used to play
and thats where we used to live
thats where we'd eat our food
and thats the school the colleges tryin to rid
lots of crime and strange lookin folk
and people with the accent
car fallin apart at the front
we used to pay out rent
bumpy streets and smoggy skies
the lake nearby the streets
and downtown the dosas quite good
got ourselves somethin to eat
as we drove away from town
the lights were shining all around
the traffic bad and sky black
but we were glad we were going back
